KODAK, Tenn. — On Tuesday, Sevier County leaders gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on a new library facility in the Kodak area.

The Sevier County library system previously received a $200,000 state grant to support the project. Crews will build a new 11,000-square-foot library facility, providing around 2,000 square feet of meeting space and a new space to help meet the community's technological needs. There will also be a dedicated children's area to help support young learners in Sevier County.

Currently, the library is operating out of a small building in Kodak. The new facility is 20 years in the making, and library leaders said they expect it to open sometime in the summer of 2025.

"To see this building come out of the ground, and this community gets a real building — that's going to be beautiful. We are so excited for everyone in this community, and they deserve it. They helped raise the money for it," said Rhonda Tippitt, the director of the Sevier County Public Library.
