KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Baseball is chasing program history this season, and it's history the Vols set themselves just a couple of seasons ago.

The 2022 Tennessee baseball team set a program record with 158 home runs as a team, but the 2024 team is chasing that record with 121 home runs and plenty of runway left to go.

The 2024 Vols are 37 home runs behind the record and have hit their total of 121 in 42 games. The 2022 crushed the record-setting 158 in 66 games including the postseason.

At the 2024 Vols' current pace, they are hitting 2.88 home runs per game, which means they would need 13 more games to reach the record while maintaining that pace.

The good news for the current team is that they have more than that in store, including the postseason. Tennessee still has 14 games remaining in the regular season, the SEC Tournament is double-elimination for top-four seeds, and the NCAA Tournament is double-elimination — meaning Tennessee would have a minimum of 17 games left to play including a guaranteed three postseason games.

If the 2024 Vols eclipse the 2022 total in just 13 more games, the team will have done it in 11 games less than the team that set the program record. That team played the entirety of the SEC Tournament and captured the conference title, but ultimately was eliminated by Notre Dame in the NCAA Super Regional.
