Driver killed, 86-year-old passenger seriously injured after I-75 crash

London police said the 88-year-old driver crashed into the back of a semi-truck that was stopped in traffic.

LONDON, Ky. — An 88-year-old man died and an 86-year-old woman was seriously hurt after a crash on Interstate 75 in Southeast Kentucky.

The London Police Department said officers responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck near exit 41 on Wednesday around 5 p.m.

Police said it appeared an SUV crashed into the back of a semi-truck that was stopped in traffic on the southbound side.

The driver of the SUV, 88-year-old Michael Powers from Michigan, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Laurel County coroner. Police said the 86-year-old passenger in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment.

The London-Laurel County Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash.
