THP: Man charged with DUI after driving in wrong lane of I-75 in Campbell County, crashing into car

A man was arrested and injured after driving down the wrong side of the highway Saturday night and hitting a car.

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a man faces DUI charges after driving down the wrong side of I-75 and hitting a car in Campbell County Saturday night.

They said Richard Lewis, 71, was driving a 2019 Honda CRV northbound on the south side of I-75 at around 10:16 p.m. on Saturday. According to a report. he hit a 1994 Ford F-150 traveling the correct direction of the highway.

Lewis hit the right guard rail and drove away from the crash, according to a report from THP, continuing to drive in the wrong direction. Troopers later found him stalled in the middle of the road around mile marker 133, according to a report.

He was then arrested and charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, having an open container and failing to maintain his lane.

They said Lewis was injured, but the driver of the F-150 was not.
